‘Classic Material Edition #14 (2000)’ Mixtape
Edition#14 of our monthly Classic Material series pays tribute to the hip hop of the year 2000, the beginning of a new decade and the end of what many consider to be hip hop’s greatest era, the 90s. The year 2000 marked a turning point for the Indie scene with artists such as De La Soul, DJ Premier and others proving to the so called ‘back pack’ fraternity that credibility and club friendly / commercial music could co-exist.
This mix is also a landmark for us here at Classic Material as it marks the end of our year long series of events, the last of which takes place on 17th December 2012 at City Arts and Music Project. This will also be the opening night of our debut exhibition – a celebration of 80s and 90s hip hop design and photography which gives a nice opportunity to round off the year’s events and introduce some new projects for next year.
Thank you for supporting the night and these mixes. All the best for 2012!
You can also download bonus tracks originally featured on the Classic Material Edition #14 Mix CD. The CDs have long since sold out but you can now get the bonus tracks via Bandcamp. Featured tracks include a Chris Read remixes of a classic by Jurassic 5 plus a bonus megamix of popular cuts released in ’2000.
