Blurb from Wax Poetics:
In celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th year, we’ve teamed up with London based ‘Classic Material’ to present a chronologically themed series of mixtapes celebrating the history of recorded Rap music, mixed by Chris Read. This fourth bonus mix follows last month’s Hip House round up with a collection of Hip Hop tracks influenced by the New Jack Swing sound of the late 80s and early 90s. Featured tracks include production from some of the producers central to the New Jack Swing sound – Teddy Riley, Eddie F, and some from those better known for a more classic Hip Hop style who also dabbled in the sound during the era – Marley Marl, Pete Rock and many more. The cover artwork references the classic Uptown Records label sleeve.
