Blurb from Wax Poetics:
In celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th year, we’ve teamed up with London based ‘Classic Material’ to present a chronologically themed series of mixtapes celebrating the history of recorded Rap music, mixed by Chris Read. Alongside the Hip Hop series this companion Breaks series takes our re-cap of Rap History a level deeper, this time reconstructing the classics of the Hip Hop canon from their constituent sample material. Arranged chronologically of course, this third volume pieces together popular Hip Hop tunes from the year of 1988, utilising only the Funk, Soul and Disco tracks from which they were originally constructed. Artwork pays homage to Paul Winley’s iconic ‘Super Disco Brakes’ compilation series.
